Hawkshead Village
Hawkshead village is centred on a beautiful church and grounds and has magnificent views of Esthwaite Water, Claife Heights and surrounding fells. The village is rich in history including Anne Tyson’s 17th Century cottage, the ever popular Beatrix Potter gallery, the former office of her husband, and lastly the Grammar school attended by William Wordsworth.
Hawkshead village is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding region with close by Windermere and Coniston, smaller Tarn Hows and Esthwaite easily accessible walks, for instance to Hill Top Farm and Sawrey, home of Beatrix Potter to the more demanding Coniston Old Man which sits proudly above nearby Coniston Water.
Thanks to the National Trust most of the scenic beauty and ambience of Lakeland is still preserved.
